Open Hands
We don't resist, we relax.
What are you trying to force right now? An answer? A phone call? A way forward?
Sometimes I catch myself trying to squeeze an answer out of Life.
My jaw gets tight. My shoulders are up around my ears. My hands are clenched around whatever I think must happen next. I’m grasping and I just can’t seem to hold on…
So I push. I pull. I worry the thing half to death. Does it help? No.
Meanwhile, life is standing right in front of me with its arms full, just waiting for me to be ready ~
How can I receive anything with my fists closed? When we relax, we align, and we are delivered.
We don't resist, we relax.
Say this to yourself out loud and let your shoulders drop ~
“We don’t resist, we relax.”
Now breathe in deep, and then all the way out. Unclench your hands. Release the day from the little prison of your expectations and really say it this time ~
“WE DON’T RESIST, WE RELAX.”
Relaxing does not mean “I give up.” It means we give up control of the things outside of our authority. We let go of pride, we let go of need.
I still make the decision, call the shot. I still do the work. I still knock on the door.
I just stop throwing my whole body against it. Life opens the door, not me. I walk through it! Through me, not by me. Around the obstacles, not through them.
Resistance says the answer must look one way. Relaxation leaves room for something better. I do my part, and then I step back. I leave room for help to find me, for the crooked road to straighten, for a sudden invitation, and the better idea that slaps me in the face like “duh!”
I leave room for Life. And thank my God that He always delivers the Goods…
Look around.
Once I stop fighting, I can let the Universe unfold for me. There is so much to be grateful for ~
The roof over my head. The food on my plate. My friends and family. The breath in my lungs. The beauty of the morning. The infinite chances we have to remember who we are. This single moment ~ the only one we have…
LOOK AROUND!
“All the good things are coming to me right now!”
RIGHT NOW!
Not someday, when I finally become worthy. Not after every problem is solved. Not when the world agrees to follow my plan.
Right here… Right now!
Life is happening. The ground is beneath my feet. My cup is overflowing.
“Everything I desire is arriving in my life at this very instant.”
The thing I want may not come marching through the front door wearing a name tag. Why would it? Everything starts as a simple idea ~ an inspiration to action. Do not be afraid! We are courageous and strong. We act now, and we correct as we go.
Good things are sneaky ~ They slip in through the side door while I’m staring out the window. If you don’t stop thinking and look around, you could miss it. Don’t worry! Opportunities are always presenting themselves. ALWAYS.
So I pick up my head. I open my eyes. I listen to people, and I really listen. I pay attention. I look around. I say thank you. I welcome what I have. I have everything I need ~
Make a fist. Now open your hand.
Feel the difference? Which one makes you feel ready?
I am done wasting my strength trying to control every detail. I open my hand and say ~
We have everything we need, and we get everything we want.
Read that again.
“We have everything we need, and we get everything we want.”
Say it with a smile. A big ol’ smile ~
“WE HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED, AND WE GET EVERYTHING WE WANT.”
I have what I need, and I have it right now.
I have a mind that can imagine. I have a voice that can speak. I have hands that can build. I have feet that can run.
I have a heart that is strong.
“I have everything I need.”
The rest is coming. It is arriving ~ right now! ~ through people, ideas, chances, work, rest, love, and things I could not have planned in a million years.
I don’t chase. I don’t try to tie it down and wrestle it to the ground. I meet it. I welcome it.
I walk toward it with my head up and my hands open. I take a breath. I do what is mine to do. Then, I let Life handle the rest.
