What I Let In
I guard my attention and step into the morning.
The house is quiet when I reach the front door.
Dawn presses a thin gold line beneath it. My fingers rest on the handle. I take one breath before I turn it.
An old argument starts again in my head. A worry reaches into the afternoon and starts arranging trouble.
I recognize both. I don’t let either one eat breakfast.
Instead, I put my palm flat against the door and say ~
“My mind is closed to all negativity.”
I set that boundary.
Negativity can knock, but I don’t have to answer.
Outside, dew clings to grassblades and the empty street shimmers in the morning light.
Today is THE DAY ~
I'm grateful for this day and its opportunities.
I’m grateful for cool air waiting on the other side of the door. I’m grateful for two good legs, a quiet street, and time.
I’m grateful for all the people in my life.
I’m grateful for the opportunities unfolding for me ~
Today is full of them.

I take action with courage and clarity.
I face the quiet street.
I start walking.
I say ~
“I take action with courage and clarity.”
I walk toward the corner. A sprinkler clicks across a patch of grass. The morning grows long as I make my way.
Sunlight reaches the upper windows, then works its way down toward the street. My shadow stretches ahead of me.
I speak to myself, or no one, or everyone ~
“Everyday I am becoming who I am meant to be.”
I am that man this morning. I guard my mind and give thanks for the day.
I say what I mean, and I have somewhere to go.
I know exactly what I want.
At the corner, I turn toward the East ~ toward the risen sun.
I let the warm light wash over me and smile big.
