Who I Decide to Be
The bend gives me somewhere new to go.
On my morning walk, I reach a turn where the path disappears behind a row of trees. I can only see a few steps ahead.
I used to slow down and study the ground. I’d wait until I felt certain about what to do next… Today I’m not missing a beat. I let the turn come to me.
At the bend, I trust my instincts and move boldly.
I'm not who I used to be... I'm who I decide to be.
The person I was, the decisions I made, everything that I was put me where I am today.
I like to thank Past Me sometimes. So I thank him, learn from him, and keep on walking. My old habits don’t get to choose today’s direction. Today belongs to the choices I make now. I’m not who I think I am, or who you think I am, or anything like that ~
I’m who I choose to be, right now.
I choose patience when I want to rush.
I choose surrender when I want control.
If I think of an excuse, I stamp it out.
I think –> I say –> I believe –> I do –> I AM.
The path curves beneath my feet. The trees block the view for a moment, then open onto a new stretch of morning. I say the next line aloud ~
“I embrace change and lean into the bends.”
I straighten up and take a deep breath. Then I stop asking the path to stay straight and accept the gentle curves and obscured vision. I lean into it and place my foot on the ground and gently push myself along.
I decide that no man will ever again hear me complaining about my life and finding fault. I realize that the Universe converts and fixes everything which stands in its way or opposes it. I welcome everything that I see and determine to use it all according to its value.

I let the river of life power me forward.
Change once frightened me… when I was always treating it like an interruption. As if, somehow, I was meant to stand still and endure like a rock on the bottom of the riverbed, eternally resistant.
On this walk, I understand the opposite. The flow of the river pulls me ever onward to a place that I could never have seen while lodged into the sand ~ a place of infinite beauty ~ more than I could have dreamed. A place of possibility and opportunity. I’m swept on and around a bend, golden light tracing my path with the current and disappearing around and around again.
I say ~
“I let the river of life power me forward.”
I quit trying to force my way through. I step into the flow and LET GO. The current meets me where I am, and I allow myself to be swept along.
I keep my hands open. I breathe. I let all the weight I have been carrying slide off my shoulders and disappear into the depths.
The river bends? I bend with it.
The path ahead curves again and again and again ~
I smile and walk forward, trusting in faith.
